Is Emily Blunt the Frontrunner for the MARY POPPINS Sequel?
Emily Blunt's a pretty popular actress these days. Thanks to Edge of Tomorrow and the upcoming Sicario, Blunt is on almost everyone's wishlist when it comes to casting. Is she going to do an Edge of Tomorrow sequel? Is she Marvel Studios' pick for Captain Marvel?
How about Mary Poppins?
According to Den of Geek, there's a possibility that Blunt is not only on Disney's wishlist for its recently announced Mary Poppins sequel, she's the frontrunner. Since the movie was announced a few days ago, much of the focus on who will follow in Julie Andrews' footsteps as Mary Poppins was focused on Anne Hathaway. She did a killer Mary Poppins impression on Saturday Night Live a few years ago, which is apparently enough to earn buzz.
Unlike Hathaway, Blunt was born in the United Kingdom. Her British heritage should put her ahead of any American actress, as Mary Poppins author PL Travers was not a fan of Americans screwing up her creation.
The Mary Poppins sequel, which will be based on Travers' additional books, will be a musical directed by Rob Marshall.
