Is THE BATMAN Coming to Theaters in November 2018 With Ben Affleck Directing?
Latino-Review reported on Wednesday that it won't be long before Affleck's Batman gets some time to himself. According to the site, Warner Bros. is eyeing a November 2018 release for The Batman. Not only will Affleck reprise his role of Batman for the movie but he'll also direct the film.
It was actually just over a year ago when Latino-Review last reported that a solo Batman film called The Batman and directed by Affleck was on the way. Last June, though, the site was predicting that The Batman would hit theaters in 2019. Providing all of these reports have been true, it sounds like Warner Bros. wants to capitalize on Batman v Superman and Justice League as quickly as possible with a solo Batman movie.
The idea of Affleck directing a superhero movie for Warner Bros. goes back before the actor was even cast as Batman. When the studio hoped to get Justice League off the ground much quicker than it has actually taken, Affleck's name was making the rounds to direct that project. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder wound up snagging the honor of helming Justice League, but there was no way Warner Bros. could let Affleck — the acclaimed director of Argo and The Town — keep his DC Cinematic Universe role to just acting.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016. Affleck is expected to have a Batman cameo in Suicide Squad, which will follow on Aug. 5, 2016, before returning for Justice League in 2017.
