Former THOR 2 Director Patty Jenkins to Direct WONDER WOMAN, Replaces Michelle MacLaren

Patty Jenkins once had the chance to become the first female director to helm a superhero movie, but she wound up leaving Thor: The Dark World due to creative differences. Jenkins in now in line to finally claim that title, signing on to direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Wednesday, reporting that Jenkins would replace Michelle MacLaren at the helm of Wonder Woman. MacLaren left the movie on Monday, with Warner Bros. citing, well, "creative differences" between the studio and the director.

Jenkins is known for directing episodes of The Killing, Arrested Development and Entourage, but her biggest cinematic claim to fame was directing Charlize Theron in Monster. Thor: The Dark World star Natalie Portman was especially angry over Jenkins leaving that movie, with THR previously reporting that Marvel had to work "overtime to smooth over the situation by including her in discussions about whom to hire as a replacement."

Right before THR broke the Jenkins/Wonder Woman news, several sites were tossing around rumors that Angelina Jolie was being targeted to direct either Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. or Captain Marvel for Marvel Studios. I'm not sure how this rumor started, but Collider was one of the main sites pushing the story. The last time we heard the "Jolie directing Captain Marvel" rumor was when it came from the tabloid-y OK! Magazine.

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot and is due to hit theaters on June 23, 2017. With Jenkins on board, Warner Bros. shouldn't lose any production time.
