Trevor Noah to Follow Jon Stewart as Host of THE DAILY SHOW

Comedy Central has found the next host of The Daily Show, choosing 31-year-old comedian Trevor Noah to replace Jon Stewart. The New York Times broke the news on Monday morning and Comedy Central confirmed it shortly after.

"I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor," Stewart said in a statement to the NYT. "He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with."

Noah has only appeared on The Daily Show three times and joined the show in 2014, but those three appearances were enough to win over Comedy Central. The NYT reports that Noah "gave no formal auditions for the job, outside of his performances on The Daily Show and elsewhere."

"No-one can replace Jon Stewart," Noah said on Twitter. "But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!"

Comedy Central hasn't set a timeline for when Stewart will step down as The Daily Show host, but the move is expected before the end of the year. Noah's selection to replace Stewart caps another busy period for late-night TV. After David Letterman announce his retirement from Late Show, Comedy Central lost Stephen Colbert to CBS. Comedy Central had previously lost The Daily Show substitute host John Oliver to HBO.
