Not Letting It Go: Disney Announces FROZEN Sequel

After denying for months that a sequel to Frozen was in the works, Disney finally came clean on Thursday. During an investors call, the company officially announced that Frozen 2 was coming.

Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter revealed that Frozen directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck would be returning to helm Frozen 2. It turns out that the team's work on Frozen Fever, the animated short running before Disney's live-action version of Cinderella, got the directors and actors on board for a sequel.

"We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters," Lasseter said in a statement. "Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we're taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that."

While no official casting announcement was made, Josh Gad participated in the investors call and Kristen Bell tweeted about the news.

You can't have a Frozen movie without Idina Menzel, so let's assume she'll be back too.

It was only a matter of time before Disney made Frozen 2 official. Frozen was a box office hit and a merchandising behemoth. The movie grossed over $400 million at the domestically and over $873 million worldwide. Frozen also won Walt Disney Animations Studios its first Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

No release date was announced for Frozen 2. Disney could pretty much slot this movie whenever it wants and it'll be just another billion-dollar film in its portfolio. Between Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars, Disney isn't hurting for tentpole movies right now.
