Rob Schrab to Direct THE LEGO MOVIE SEQUEL (Yes, That's Its Official Title)

If you're Rob Schrab, everything is awesome. Schrab was announced as the director of The Lego Movie Sequel on Tuesday, taking the reins of the follow-up to the movie that rightfully should have won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature this past Sunday.

While Schrab isn't a household name, he's previously directed episodes of Community, Parks and Recreation and The Mindy Project. The Lego Movie Sequel will be his directorial debut, with The Lego Movie director Phil Lord and Chris Miller writing the story and serving as producers.

"We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years," Lord and Miller said in a statement. "No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, 'Of course!'"

Schrab will helm a sequel that is expected to pick up five years after The Lego Movie. This will probably place the boy who brought Emmet and his friends to life around the age when kids go through what fans of Lego refer to as their dark ages — the time when they stop playing with Lego sets.

The Lego Movie Sequel will hit theaters in May 25, 2018. It will be preceded by Ninjago on Sept. 23, 2016 and The Lego Batman Movie on May 26, 2017.
