Yahoo Sets March 17 Premiere for COMMUNITY; Harmon Not Writing This Season 'As If It's the End'

Dan Harmon and the cast of Community participated in a Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour event on Tuesday, with Yahoo! revealing that the sixth season of the revived show will premiere through the Yahoo Screen app on March 17.

Community's run on Yahoo Screen will kick off with two episodes and will then run a new episode every Tuesday after that. Well, not forever after that, but until the season is done.

And beyond that?

"The important answer first is that I'm definitely not writing it as if it's the end," Community creator Harmon said during the event. "I'm very naive about how the business actually works, these guys' contracts, scheduling, so I just stick with a very sixth grade mentality. And the mentality is this show has lived by the sword of the very intimate relationship with fans, and has to die by that sword. So only when people stop watching do I want to stop providing the project. ... I would never feel very comfortable walking away from any version of Community that was existing. In my mind, I have to keep writing the show as if it's going to exist for 20 seasons."

As you saw in the clip promoting Community's March 17 premiere, original castmembers Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong all return, with Paget Brewster and Keith David joining the cast. Martin Mull and Lesley Ann Warren will also appear to play Britta's parents.

In addition to Chevy Chase and Donald Glover, who departed over the past two seasons, Season 5 castmembers Jonathan Banks and John Oliver are also gone. Harmon was asked whether the rumors that Chase could return were true. "His character died," Harmon said. "If something like that were to happen — if you were to take a man and bring him back to life like that, I would keep it a secret. I wouldn't reveal it in a hotel in Pasadena."

Chase did appear in the fifth season of Community as a hologram talking to McHale's Jeff Winger.
