Jake Gyllenhaal Won't Replace Tom Hardy in SUICIDE SQUAD

Warner Bros.' search to replace Tom Hardy in Suicide Squad will continue. Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal has passed on the role of Rick Flag in the August 2016 superhero flick, according to a Variety report.

Had Gyllenhaal accepted the studio's offer, he would have joined Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne. The actor had previously worked with Suicide Squad director David Ayer in End of Watch.

Hardy dropped out of Suicide Squad last week, with The Hollywood Reporter claiming it was due to scheduling issues. Latino-Review, however, reported that Hardy wasn't happy with the direction of the movie's script. If that's the case, it's no surprise that Gyllenhaal, coming off the critical glow of Nightcrawler, would attach himself to Suicide Squad.
