RECAP: Marvel Announces 9 Phase Three Cinematic Universe Movies, Casts Chadwick Boseman, Moves Ant-Man to Phase Two

Well, that was quite the day for Marvel Studios. While Warner Bros. was content with announcing its upcoming 10-picture DC superhero slate over a conference call with investors, Marvel revealed their nine Phase Three movies in style, bringing together fans and the press for a big even at Los Angeles' El Capitan Theater.

During the event, Marvel confirmed sequels and/or announced titles for sequels to Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor and Avengers, while also announcing that Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and the Inhumans would finally make their jump to the big screen.

May 6, 2016: Captain America: Civil War
Nov. 4, 2016: Doctor Strange
May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 28, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok
Nov. 3, 2017: Black Panther
May 4, 2018: Avengers: Infinity War — Part I
July 6, 2018: Captain Marvel
Nov. 2, 2018: Inhumans
May 3, 2019: Avengers: Infinity War — Part II

We didn't get the big Spider-Man announcement we were hoping for nor did we get official word that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Doctor Strange, but Tuesday's news was still very awesome. Adding Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will bring the diversity the studio was missing to their mix.

There's just so much to take in from what Marvel has planned. New properties. Ambitious sequels. A two-part Avengers: Infinity War that's going to bring all of this together. Remember when this all started? Just a simple Iron Man movie back in the spring of 2008. Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight was the talk of pop culture back then. By the time Avengers: Infinity War — Part II hits theaters 12 years after that, Marvel Studios will enjoyed years of dominating the box office while Warner Bros. struggled to catch up.

Something that slipped through today's announcements is that Ant-Man has been shifted to Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Avengers: Age of Ultron was originally going to cap off that phase, that honor now belongs to Ant-Man, which will open on July 17, 2015.
