Christian Bale Is Steve Jobs: Aaron Sorkin Confirms Casting News

Mark Christian Bale's name down for another Oscar nomination — the Dark Knight star has been confirmed to be playing Steve Jobs in Sony's upcoming biopic about the Apple founder.

We got word that the studio and director Danny Boyle wanted Bale for Steve Jobs last week, but Bloomberg made it official, reporting that screenwriter Aaron Sorkin told them that "We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that's Chris Bale. He didn't have to audition."

Steve Jobs doesn't have a release date yet, but the film finally has its two main pieces: Bale to play Jobs and Boyle to direct. David Fincher had previously been in talks to helm the film (and wanted Bale as his star too) but dropped out over creative and financial differences.

Sorkin revealed to Bloomberg that playing Jobs won't be an easy task. "[Bale] has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined," Sorkin said. "There isn't a scene or a frame that he's not in. So it's an extremely difficult part and he is gonna crush it."

That news is in line with what Sorkin said about Steve Jobs almost two years ago, mentioning that the screenplay was being written to cover just three 30-minutes scenes, covering the launch of three key products: The Mac, NeXT and the iPod. Bale's going to have a ton of work to do with this movie.
