FIRST LOOK: 'Peanuts' Brings Charlie Brown and Snoopy Back to the Big Screen

When I saw that USA Today had debuted the first few pics from the upcoming Peanuts movie, I was ready to grab my Internet pitchfork and start rioting against the idea of bring Charles Schulz's classic characters into the world of 3D movies with the director of an Ice Age sequel at the helm.

Then I saw the pic of Charlie Brown hugging Snoopy.

We know very little about the Peanuts movie. Beyond Ice Age: Continental Drift's Steve Martino directing and Bryan Schulz, the grandson of Charles, writing the screenplay, there aren't many details about this film. "It's about a round-headed kid and his dog, and that's about as far as I'm willing to go," Craig Schulz told USA Today.

If Peanuts can expand the emotion that picture of Charlie Brown and Snoopy has into a full-length movie, I have hope. Peanuts has long been commercialized, but it was always done in a respectful manner. I have a fear about celebrity voices or pseudo modern touches (like backwards hats and hoodies in the Alvin and the Chipmunks cinematic adaptions) ruining the characters.

"I'm way more protective than my father would have been," Craig Schulz said to USA Today. "Our No. 1 goal was always to be authentic to his work and legacy."

Peanuts opens on Nov. 6, 2015. I'm a bit more optimistic now.
