First Look at 'Godzilla' Remake Thanks to 'USA Today'

While 2015 has a ton of big franchises in store for us, 2014 has something that year doesn't — a monster franchise. And not just any monster franchise, but one featuring Godzilla, the king of monsters.

Forget that awful 1998 Godzilla movie starring Matthew Broderick. This Godzilla is different. Gareth  Edwards, the man behind the genius small-budget film Monsters, is directing the new Godzilla for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Through Monsters (which, if you haven't seen, you should see), Edwards proved that he can infuse a monster story with humanity while finding a new perspective at the same time. Hopefully he can do that with Godzilla.

To promote the first trailer for Godzilla hitting the Internet on Tuesday, Edwards chatted with USA Today about his epic monster movie. "To me, he's like a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we've behaved," Edwards told USA Today. "If this really happened, it would be like Sept. 11."

If you saw the Comic-Con teaser for Godzilla last year, you saw the destruction that Edwards has in store for moviegoers. We're not talking the kind of cutesy destruction that features Hank Azaria running down the street — "wrath of God" is a pretty good way of putting it.

Godzilla stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Wantanabe, Juliette Binoche and David Straithairn. It hits theaters on May 16, 2014.
